love letters
Today’s post is a bit different than my normal entries. It’s all about keeping in touch with loved ones; rather it be friends, family or intimate relationships. Per my blog title, I’ve been pen-paling my Grandmother since I was enrolled at The Ohio State University in 2007. I can’t believe it, it’s been over 10 years! We’ve written through the ups and downs of life for a decade; through my Grandfather’s death, my cousin’s marriages, college, loss and gains of friendships/relationships, life’s setbacks and gains. It’s been incredible watching her grow as an individual through paper and pen.
Grandma isn’t the only favorite that I write to; I’ve got my best friend Lesley in Chicago, IL. We like to write about what’s been going on in our busy lives! She’s a very talented director and killing it making a name for her in the theatre world! I’ve got my road dog in Kalamazoo, MI, Rory. We like to write about our adventures. Rory and I have traveled cross-country together twice! I’ve got my great friend Carrie in West Palm Beach, Florida. Carrie has moved all over the country basically since I’ve known her and I love writing to her about her moving experiences, house-buying and home-owning! (Let’s be honest, we write sometimes about recent events, as Carrie’s home was boarded up for Hurricane Irma)…I write to my dear and beautiful friend Aubrey in Bountiful, UT. Aubrey and I have known each other through letter writing, text messaging and social media for about 12 years now. We’ve kept in touch through the years but just recently became writing buds. Although I’ve never physically met her in person, I adore her and feel like I know her just from our letters!
What I’m basically getting at here is not a lecture nor advice by any means. I am simply letting my amazing audience know how much I love to tell people that I care about them and love them through letter-writing (well, amongst other ways too…). I take great pride in the work I’ve done over the years to physically let someone know that I’m thinking about them when they come across my mind…but those letters mean the world to me. I think the anticipation is the best part; knowing that someone cares enough to take time out of their busy lives to write ME! Yes, that letter is just to ME!!! And just so you know, they’re WAY better than bills.
If there IS a message I’m trying to encourage here, it is this; if someone is on your mind, tell them! Immediately! Don’t wait. In 2017, the human race has so many things to focus on, often times we forget the people that mean the most to us. We’re busy with our daily lives, rather it be work, working out, entertaining the children, grocery shopping, daily house tasks, etc., it’s important that we remember one another, too. There’s nothing like waiting on one of those letters or a quick text from a friend letting us know they care and miss us. Let’s build one another up. Reach out to someone you love today and tell them how much they mean to you. The reciprocation is priceless.
